A Blanket of snow…. and the Blanket Coat. jds_user, July 17, 2015April 22, 2016 First classes for this term were just held this week, before this lovely dump occurred, 10 cm soft powder snow everywhere. So this is our current view from the Studio…a little different from the usual ! Now to the Blanket Coat…perfect for winter, but so simple to make. The beauty of this style which was inspired by many similar released by top clothing labels this winter, is it has no interfacing, no facings, no machined buttonholes and no lining…just like wrapping yourself in a blanket! Some call it a Boho look as it lacks any of the usual structure we build into a garment and instead relies on the body of the fabric…think double faced wools, felted wools and coatings…lots of stiffness which makes regular seaming hard. This style uses the selvedge for decoation, requires little seam finishing plus wrong and right sides show a nice added touch. Edges on collars cuffs etc are just turned over once or twice and edge- stitched in a large stitch. Buttonole is just a break in the seam where collar attaches to neckline. This pattern and directions are available to anyone through this site for $28.00. JUDI’S STUDIO goes to Canberra! I took my coat idea to Addicted To Fabric..a fabulous fabric shop in Philip, ACT, last weekend and helped 8 keen and lovely ladies create their own in just over a day.Well done girls! News
